Painting Preparation works to Building Exterior
Before any external painting can be carried out, proper preparatory works to the façade or any side of the building’s elevations must be taken care of. These works include scaffolding erections, safety netting, high pressure water jet washing of the external wall surfaces, etc.
Where it involves exterior painting on a larger massive project, for example, tall condominium blocks or commercial office buildings, hosting equipment such as the boom lifts or gondolas together with harnesses to hoist the painting workers up will be required. The erection, installation, adjustments and dismantling of such scaffolding can only be done by approved scaffold contractors under Regulation 5 of the Workplace Safety and Health according to the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore.
Site Survey prior to Exterior Painting Quotes
For the accuracy of quotations, site show rounds or a site visit needs to be conducted at the site by the property owner or building representative for the painting contractors. This is to assess the site grounds to see if there is enough space for the hoisting equipment as well as to gauge the scale of works involved.

Outdoor Paint Types
Outdoor paint or exterior paint is different from interior paint types. Like interior paints, they also come in oil-based and water-based paint formulas. Outdoor paints and formulated differently in order to withstand harsher external environmental and weather conditions. Outdoor climatic conditions such as the rain, sun, winds, humidity, etc, hence their constitution is made tougher in resisting wear and tear. They are usually ultraviolet rays-resistant so the painted surfaces will not crack or peel easily.
Exterior paints also tend to contain higher VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) levels due to the additives and more paint resins and pigments that are needed to reinforce the strength of the paint coat so it bonds well to the plastered, stucco or masonry exterior wall surfaces.
